Warm Health’s High-Tech, High-Touch Solutions To Focus on Arizona’s Medicaid Population
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 28, 2008) Warm Health, Inc. of Wayzata, MN recently signed a multi-year contract with Tucson, Arizona-based University Physicians Health Plans (UPHP) to provide outreach programs to members of the health plan. Warm Health, which specializes in the design, development and delivery of interactive automated care management communications, will ultimately provide 21 separate outreach programs. The programs are designed to educate members about health related issues and concerns and monitor them for any changes in their health status.
The first Warm Health programs launched October 1, 2008, to approximately 85,000 Medicaid enrollees that are part of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS).
UPHP CEO and Plan Administrator Kathleen Oestreich said “Our goal at UPHP is to provide excellent care to our members and also to encourage our members to actively participate in their own healthcare. Warm Health will help us do that by providing our members with health education and by identifying members that would benefit from interacting with our care management team. We chose to work with Warm Health due to their focus on care management, their ability to engage a wide variety of members and the flexibility their solution provides.”
Warm Health CEO Dan Freier stated, “We are excited to be working with a health plan with the history and tradition of UPHP. As we have gone through the implementation with the UPHP care management team, we are continually impressed by their focus on providing the highest quality of care to their members.”

Warm Health Appoints Managed Care Veteran Dr. Val Dean as Chief Medical Officer
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 27, 2008) – Warm Health, a market leader in technology based communication has named managed care expert Val Dean, M.D., to the newly formed position of Chief Medical Officer.
Dean brings more than 35 years of care management experience to Warm Health. After practicing family medicine in Colorado for 18 years, Dean shifted his focus to health care quality improvement. In his 15-plus years of senior management experience with national managed care companies, Dean was instrumental in the development and marketing of health IT services.
“Val’s unique perspective is a perfect fit for Warm Health, and his input will set us apart in the industry,” said Warm Health CEO Dan Freier. “Val has owned and managed every aspect of the care management process, from the patient, to the health plan, to the systems used by health plans. His understanding of the work-flow on all levels will allow Warm Health to design seamless systems that serve clients and patients in the best manner possible.”
Before joining Warm Health, Dean served as CEO of Puerto Rico-based MMM Health Care Inc., one of the largest and fastest growing Medicare Advantage plans. Prior to MMM, Dean served as Vice President of Care Management for TriZetto, Inc., where he evaluated the care management market to identify and complete key acquisitions, ultimately orchestrating the deployment of cutting-edge personal health records and electronic, personalized care management. Dean also served as CEO of PacifiCare of Colorado after serving as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of PacifiCare’s predecessor companies.
“Warm Health provides an elegantly simple way to address the age-old care management problem of who nurses spend their time with,” said Dean. “Warm Health solutions target resources efficiently, allowing the same or fewer nurses to monitor more people, instead of just a few. For patients with chronic illnesses, Warm Health tools help find the people getting into trouble and intervene before they require hospitalization. It’s also a relatively inexpensive and convenient way to get members highly involved in their chronic illness.”
